Making music social again. Like, share and discover new music and artists with a simple swipe

Overview

Shuffle is a mobile app designed to easily allow users to discover new artists, share songs with their friends, and encourage people to explore beyond their music tastes.

I wanted to keep the user's initial experience friendly, informative, and welcoming. That is why I ensured that the very first time when downloading the app the user would be treated with a brief tutorial that highlights some of the main features and components.

The main focus of this interface was designed to provide the users with a quick and easy way to discover new songs by listing to a brief clip from them. Then they can add them to a playlist, like the song, or share it with their friends in the app, or even share it outside of the app.

What I learned

Logo Design

I incorporated the "S" from shuffle, the essence of a sound wave, and the horizontal lines found on sheet music to create a logo that subtly represents the apps purpose.

Guided Onboarding

As a UI/UX designer, working directly with a developer to create a social media app that allows users to like, share and create playlists with their friends and followers has taught me a great deal about collaboration, communication and problem-solving.

One of the most important lessons I learned was the importance of effective communication between the designer and the developer. Throughout the design process, I made sure to keep the developer informed of any design changes or updates, and they provided valuable feedback on the feasibility and practicality of those changes. This helped ensure that the final product was both visually appealing and technically sound.

I also learned the importance of problem-solving and adaptability. As we encountered technical issues or design challenges, we worked together to find solutions that would satisfy both the user experience and the technical requirements of the app. This required a great deal of flexibility and willingness to compromise on both sides, but ultimately led to a stronger and more user-friendly product.

Intuitive Navigation

Overall, working directly with a developer to create a social media app taught me the importance of collaboration, communication, and problem-solving in creating a successful product. I gained a deeper appreciation for the technical aspects of app development and the critical role that UI/UX design plays in creating a compelling user experience.

The main navigation through this app includes a home scroll to discover music, a search page to find a specific song or artist, an activity page to see what songs have been shared with the user, and a profile page that houses the users "liked" songs as well as any playlists they have created.
